Céline Siani Djiakoua

Céline Siani Djiakoua is a French-English multidisciplinary visual artist. In 2015 her work was selected for the regional Nottingham Castle Open, winning two prizes. In 2020, she was awarded an Arts Council funding for her project, The Untouched Collection”, a residency at Bromley House Library (Nottingham) where she was researching a 19th century collection of travelling books to collect illustrations of African nature.

Her core practice consists in autobiographical line drawings which are both analytical and emotional, representing a female figure. She uses motif to move within the realms of cultural history, personal narrative and the collective unconscious. Drawing on Jungian theory, she explores issues of ecofeminism and de/colonisation.

Her multi-layered installations often show specific interests relating to injustices inflicted to Peoples, Women and Nature. She uses moving images, sound, words, projections and, more recently, virtual and augmented reality. Yet, she is also very interested in the more physical and tactile aspects of works on paper such as the book form and printing processes. These past 5 years, growing her own dye garden, she has explored techniques using plants such as botanical prints, natural inks and dyes.
