Márcia Porto is a Brazilian artist, educator and researcher based in Nottingham, UK. Her interdisciplinary practice encompasses mural drawing, performance, installation and painting.

She creates symbolic spaces shaped by ritual and ceremony, exploring the relationships between the body, corporeality and natural and human-made environments, with a focus on gender, vulnerability and spatial politics. Her research centres on the itineraries of nomadic women, whose journeys offer a way of exploring displacement and resistance to homogenised identities.

Drawing on her ancestral heritage, she develops visual metaphors through these travelling figures. Wind, fog and layered opacity recur throughout her work, where slow movements and shifting forms evoke time, memory and transience.

She holds an MA in Visual Poetics, as well as degrees in Visual Arts and Art Education, from the University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil.
