BACKLIT aims to offer the best possible experience to everyone who visits us. Alfred House, built in 1872, is split across four floors. We try wherever possible to be accommodating to those with additional access needs.

We have several parking spaces available for those who require level access to the building. Please email or call ahead of your visit if you need this.

We have a lift available that you access through our basement floor from Alfred Street or a side entrance on Ashley Street. The basement floor and Project Gallery on Alfred Street access is from street level via a tarmac ramp. The side entrance on Ashley Street access is from street level and has double doors. Please email or call ahead of your visit if you need this.

All our toilets are gender-neutral. Unfortunately, none of our toilets has wide access doors, and therefore it is not currently possible to fit a wheelchair into any of them.

We welcome guide and hearing dogs throughout the building.

Large-print versions of exhibition information panels are available in the galleries, we can provide other information in large print on request.

If you are planning on visiting and would like further information, you are welcome to call in advance on 0115 837 24 26 or email us at [email protected] so we can ensure your visit is pleasurable.
