Digital Threads Workshop
We’re excited to announce our new exhibition and workshop, Digital Threads, which will run from 16 August to 4 September at St Anns Library.
The exhibition kicks off on the 16th of August with a free workshop. The workshop will show you how to create a 3D scan of any object you bring with you. This is a similar process to how we created our VR experience using scanned objects from our archive.
How to Join The Workshop:
- When: 16th of August, 1 - 2 pm
- Where: St Ann’s Library
- All ages. Free.
- Please book on through Eventbrite here.
Bring an object that reflects your personal or family history. This could be a childhood toy, an item of clothing, a family heirloom, a kitchen tool, or even something you’ve held onto but aren’t ready to part with.
Ryan Heath from the University of Nottingham's Digital Transformation Hub and Amelia Roberts from Confetti will lend their expertise to guide you through the process.
Your scans will become part of The People’s Archive, celebrating people's lives in St Ann’s and Sneinton over the past 200 years.
We’re eager to include a diverse range of objects and stories, so please share this with anyone who might be interested. Once scanned, we’ll send you a copy of your 3D object.
This workshop will inspire you to see curation as something anyone can try.
This off-site exhibition showcases items from our Samuel Morley Archive and our People's Archive.
It also marks the launch of Morley Threads, a virtual reality experience which allows you to explore the BACKLIT building as it was in the 1800s when it functioned as a textile factory.
As you navigate the virtual space, you’ll discover information points that reveal archival objects connected to Samuel Morley, the building’s original commissioner.
After its launch at St Ann’s Library, a desktop version of the game will be available on our website.
Sharing Your Object Online:
We'd love to share your 3D object on our social media.
- Send us your 3D scanned object by tagging BACKLIT, or email [email protected].
- Include a brief description of what the item means to you. This could be a few words, a few sentences, or even a longer story.
- We’ll then share your objects on our Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook.
Please get in touch if you have any questions.
We look forward to seeing your contributions!
