Mountain of Tongues celebrated the complexity of distinct languages and cultures in the Caucasus region between Europe and Asia. The exhibition investigated the transmission of language and knowledge in this strategic geographical area, which Arab geographers called “Jabal Al-Alsun” (or “Mountain of Languages”).

In exploring historical narratives and transnational relationships, the works in the exhibition expanded on themes of identity politics and the varying manifestations of language through the reactivation of ideas, behaviours, and thought processes between Eastern and Western identities.
